Family Adventure in the Andes

This is a private itinerary and NOT a set departure. It can be carried out at any time of year subject to availability. It can also be amended and tailored to include other destinations or shortened to meet your time requirements. Elements of the this itinerary can be incorporated into your own tailor-made itinerary.
There will be different activities for kids between 5-9 and 9-13 years old.

Day 1  
Arrival Lima

Arrival in Lima from your evening international flight. You will be met by our representatives and transferred to your hotel. Overnight.

Day 2  
Lima - Arequipa (2335m)

Morning 1-hour flight to Arequipa. Full day visit of the lovely colonial city of Arequipa. Visit the Frozen Inca mummies at the Museo Santuarios de Altura and the 16th century Convento de Santa Catalina. Overnight Hotel Posada del Puente.

Day 3
Arequipa - Colca (3400m)

Five hour spectacular drive in your 4x4 vehicle to the Colca Valley. Fabulous scenery and wildlife on the way. Arrival at the Lovely Parador del Colca, the perfect retreat for your explorations in coming days.

Day 4  
Colca Valley

The highlight today is viewing the Condor, the largest flying bird in the world, from the Condor Lookout point. Afternoon activities for the children at the lodge (feeding animals, trout fishing in the pond, harvesting vegetables from the organic garden, making their own herbarium). Teenagers and parents may want to go hiking or everyone may want to enjoy the thermal baths. Overnight at the Parador del Colca.

Day 5  
Colca - Cuzco

Drive back to Arequipa and take scheduled flight to Cuzco. You will be met by our representative and driven to the hotel. Meet your rainforest guide for a briefing. Enjoy the afternoon and evening in the lovely town of Cuzco, its cobblestone streets, plazas, cafes and shops. Excellent dining opportunities. Overnight Hotel Monasterio del Cuzco. This hotel is a refurbished 16th century Monastery that s now run by Orient Express Hotels.

Day 6
Cuzco - Manu National Park

A thirty-five minute flight in a radar-equipped twin engine plane takes you to Boca Manu. Here you transfer to a motorized canoe for the 90 minute journey down the Madre de Dios River to Manu Wildlife Center to arrive for lunch. During lunch your guide will brief you on the activities for the next three days, both for parents and children. Afternoon exploring trails. Night walk to the tapir Lick after dinner. For the duration of the stay in the rainforest, there will be specific activities tailored for children, so they learn to appreciate and value nature, and the importance of conservation, Overnight at Manu Wild Life Center.

Day 7  
Manu National Park

Rising before dawn, we take a 25 minute boat journey downstream to the only large parrot and macaw clay lick in the Manu area. You will afford views of hundreds of parrots and macaws from a floating catamaran blind. Afternoon visit one of the two oxbow lakes found in the area. Overnight Manu Wild Life Center.

Day 8
Manu National Park -Cuzco- Urubamba Valley

Return trip to the Manu landing strip, flight to Cusco and by Car to the Urubamba Valley. En route to your lovely bungalow style hotel in Urubamba you will visit the magnificent ruins of Pisac and hike down to the village and check its famous market. Children will be introduced to pottery techniques while in the market. Overnight Hotel Sol y Luna.

Day 9  
Urubamba Valley - Ollantaytambo

Children will participate in a pottery lesson tis morning at the hotel, while grownups go and visit the Inca site of Ollantaytambo, magnificent in its location and quality of the stonework.
For lunch parents and kids will meet at the lovely Hacienda Huayo Ccari. After lunch, the whole family may enjoy an easy 2 hour ride on lovely Peruvian Paso horses. Pizza evening at the hotel, everybody will bake and eat their own pizzas. Overnight Hotel Sol y Luna.

Day 10
Trek to Huchuy Qosqo (3250m)

This is the perfect trek for the whole family. Varied, but not terribly long. We will have donkeys and mules available for the children (and grownups) to ride if they get tired. An added bonus is camping at the wonderful site of Huchuy Qosqo, a little-visited but remarkable Inca site. The grade of this trek is "easy. The total distance of the trek is approximately 14 Km. Maximum altitude is 4300m. Overnight in tents.

Day 11
Return from Huchuy Qosqo Trek

After breakfast you will begin your walk on a steep downhill path towards Lamay, for approximately 2 hours, and from there go straight to Chinchero. Lunch at a local restaurant. In Chinchero, the children will have a 3 hour traditional weaving session specially tailored to their age, where they will learn bout and have a chance of weaving themselves. Parents will have a guided visit of the archaeological site at Chinchero, and the village church built on an Inca Temple. Drive back to the hotel Sol y Luna.

Day 12  
1-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (2400m)

Train to Machu Picchu. You will ride for 1 ½ hours until you stop to start walking 5 hours. Lovely landscapes, waterfalls, Inca road and the magnificent Inca Site of Winay Wayna, precede your arrival into the wonderful Inca site of Machu Picchu. Overnight Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge.

Day 13  
Visit Machu Picchu am, afternoon activities Machu Picchu Pueblo

Enjoy Machu Picchu early in the morning when it is quiet. Later you can go down to the lovely Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, a charming hotel nestled in the cloudforest. The Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel has, aside from comfortable bungalow-style tastefully decorated rooms, a very nice restaurant with good food and lovely landscaped gardens, a number of delightful nature-related activities for children and grown-ups.

Day 14  
Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel , Afternoon return to Cuzco

Morning activities at the Hotel. Afternoon Train to Cuzco. You will arrive in Cuzco about 3 ½ hours later. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Overnight Monasterio del Cusco (Orient Express Hotel Group) a wonderful converted 16th century monastery.

Day 15  
Cuzco City Tour

Today you will have a full day guided visit of the Cuzco. The visit will include the Cathedral, Korikancha (the sun temple) and the nerby ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Quenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay . You will also visit the Pre-Columbian Art Museum of Cuzco, where children will have the chance of drawng some of the pieces. Overnight Hotel Monasterio . (B.)

Day 16  
Fly to Lima. International Flight

Transfer to the airport to catch your flight to Lima. In Lima, you will be collected and transferred to your hotel where you have a day room booked. You will have a car and driver at your disposal should you wish to go shopping or visit a museum. Transfer to the airport to catch your international flight.
