Peru's culinary scene
La Mar
Our favourite is Cebicheria La Mar, which is now tops Lima's gastronomic scene. Set in a grey cement building in the affluent neighbourhood of Miraflores, and roofed with bamboo and palms, La Mar 's décor is contemporary and reminds us of a smart beach bar.
The cuisine brings together disparate ethnic influences and flavours. Our favourites are "cebichines" mini cebiches (cebiche a classic Peruvian dish based on pieces of fish and/or seafood marinated in a lemon-based juice and a blend of spices among them coriander, chilli and ginger.) made of whatever fish you choose, anticucho de pulpo (squid brochette), and the tacu tacu nikkei (creamy pallar beans from ica fried with rice topped with salmon skewers with south American Teriyaki sauce). |

Cebiche at La Mar |
On the drinks front, the "Cholopolitan" a cocktail made of pisco, cranberry, lima-limon, cointreau and a touch of passion fruit is definitely a must.
