Lake Titicaca (peruvian side)

Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, extends over an area of 8.300 sq km, and is situated at 3.812 metres above sea level, halfway between the Peruvian and Bolivian highlands.
The thin air, the deep blue of the lake, the fauna of the highlands - among them the vicuņa - and the native populations are some of the highlights. The folklore of the populations is considered the richest in Peru, with many religious celebrations throughout the year. See Map.

Practical Information

Access to the Peruvian side of the Lake can be from La Paz overland and by boat, by plane from Lima, Arequipa or Cuzco, overland from the Colca or Cuzco, or by train from Cuzco. To visit the Lake most people stay in the city of Puno, not very pretty in our view, but with plenty of hotels and facilities. Please click here for recommendations in this area.

Most people who visit the Peruvian side of the Lake scratch only the surface. They visit only touristy destinations such as Uros and Taquile and to a certain extent also Amantani, and then they leave. It is not that we do not like these destinations, we of course offer them too…..it is rather that THERE IS MORE TO SEE.

Uros Island

Your boat to cruise the Lake
We recommend going to Suasi Island for at least 2 nights, preferably 3. To visit the community of Llachon and maybe even kayak to Taquile from there. Or to visit the Anapia Island and overnight there!

In any case we recommend a total of 4 days in the region ideally. If you don't have time to overnight on the Lake 1 day can be fine and overnighting in Puno, but do visit it properly!
By the way, another addition to your circuit can be going to Hacienda Mallkini on the way to or from Cuzco, or a day trip to Pucara, Sillustani with Lunch in the lovely Fundo Chincheros.
Sample Itineraries 2, 3 and 4 include a visit to Lake Titicaca!
If you reach Lake Titicaca by land from Cuzco or Arequipa, we recommend to drive and make sure you visit the lovely village of Lampa and the attractions around it such as the Tinajani canyon.
