Manu, one of the
oldest parks in South America, covers nearly 2 million
hectares. Manu is said to have the highest biological
diversity of any rainforest in the world, particularly
in varieties of tree species, and is also home to the
tribal Machiguenga and Piro people. See Map.
What is unique about Manu, is that it offers the possibility
of travelling overland through a variety of ecosystems,
from high Andean savannah (Puna) to lowland Amazonia:
through elfin forest and cloudforest ecosystems. It is
an exhilarating trip.
Once in the lowland forest, the trip continues on a motorised
canoe. You will return to Cuzco by chartered aircraft.
You will require at least 5 days /4 nights (beginning
and ending your rainforest trip in Cuzco).
