Casa Colcampata
Cuzco
Casa Colcampata is a beautiful colonial mansion
located in the neighbourhood of San Cristobal, in the northern part
of Cuzco on the way to the Inca Ruins of Sacsayhuaman. The colonial
house was built on an Inca Palace, which records indicated was first
owned by Huayna Capac Inca. The palace's superb Inca wall is still
standing behind the house.
Casa Colcampata was apparently owned for a
time by the second puppet Inca, Cristobal Paullu Inca (half brother
of Atahualpa and Manco Inca) crowned Inca by the Spanish Conquistadors
in July 1537 (hence the name "puppet") after the Conquest
and after Manco's second rebellion and escape to Vilcabamba. The
house boasts a privileged position overlooking the city of Cuzco,
and its garden terrace is the perfect spot for sunset drinks and/or
dinner.
