This trek to the last outpost
of the Incas, at the end of "a road going nowhere" is
a unique experience. The trek itself is not terribly strenuous,
it is the inaccesibility of the location, 18 hours drive from Cuzco,
and the difficulty in evacuation in case of an emergency, is that
which makes this trek be rated as rigorous. Another feature of this
trek is that it is mainly in rainforest and cloudforest terrain,
withdrawing the additional difficulties that stem from walking at
high altitude. Horses to ride part of the way are also available.
