You will be collected from your hotel in the
Valley and drive for approximately one hour to the beginning of
your trek. The walk starts at approximately one hour from the Urubamba
Valley on the route towards the Malaga Pass beyond Ollantaytambo.
The first 3 1/2 hours are purely uphill across high Andean Valleys
inhabited by subsistence farmers and sheep and llama herders. You
will reach the highest point of your hike at 5000m where you will
obtain breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and especially
snowcapped Veronica. From this point onwards you will start your
descent across dramatic landscapes, and you will come across a couple
of beautiful lagoons.
Four hours descending will take you to the traditional
community of Patakancha where your Pachamanca (traditional Andan
dish of meat and potatoes cooked in the earth) or Picnic will be
expecting you. (lunch will be late today. You will be given a snack
at the beginning of your trek to keep you going). Visit the Community
and our Medical Project and return on your vehicle to Ollantaytambo
and back to your hotel. Total walking 7-8 hours.
