Paraty, a Unesco Heritage site, is a
lovely little town by the water 5 hours drive
from either Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Paraty is
a true gem. This 16 th century outpost was the port
at the end of the Gold Route, coming from the gold mines
of what is now Minas Gerais 1,600 kms away, in the hills
north of Rio de Janeiro. Paraty is the perfect base
to explore the quiet and secluded bays nearby by yacht
or small boat, while overnighting in a charming Pousada
or a private Villa.
It is also possible to spend a few days
on a boat, fully outfitted and complete with all the
necessary toys to play in the ocean, such as kayaks,
snorkeling and diving equipment. Paraty is located on
the fabulous Bay of Ilha Grande a secluded spot on Brazil's
Atlantic coast set in the most exuberant and lush vegetation
of the rare Atlantic Rainforest ecosystem.
