Bolivia offers a myriad of
possibilities to the curious traveller. As the experts in

way around: by theme and by destination.

To give you some background, the
two most visited attractions in Bolivia are LAKE TITICACA and THE
UYUNI SALT PANS, both in the highlands of Bolivia. Other noteworthy
destinations are the historic cities of SUCRE and POTOSI. The JESUIT
MISSIONS near the lowland city of SANTA CRUZ are very much worth
a visit, especially for those with a strong cultural and architectural
interest. A little-known fact is that Bolivia is one of the best
destinations in the world to visit the RAINFOREST, with some of
the most pristine RAINFOREST AREAS IN SOUTH AMERICA (Cover Story
in National Geographic March 2000) in MADIDI and NOEL KEMPFF MERCADO
NATIONAL PARKS.

Other aspects to consider and
to build into your trip are the extraordinary richness of
craftsmanship -evident in the MARKETS throughout the HIGHLANDS
of Bolivia--, and FOLK TRADITION, with a wide variety of music
and dance. TREKKING is also a highlight, with innumerable
trekking possibilities around the Cordillera Real, many of
which have large extensions of Inca pavement and wide variations
in terrain.

On archaeology, despite not being
Bolivia's forte, you can find the Pre Inca site of Tiwanaku near
La Paz, and the Inca ruins of Samaipata, in the lowlands of Bolivia.
You can either search the possible destinations based on themes:
NATURE or CULTURE, or based on specific destinations via the DESTINATIONS
frame.

There are a number of worthwhile
destinations that do not feature in this website, such as
the YUNGAS close to La Paz, the lowland area of BENI in the
north, the vineyard country of TARIJA in the south, or National
Parks such as AMBORO in central Bolivia. We will be happy
to include those in a Tailor Made Itinerary if that is your
choice.

The destinations we feature in this
website correspond to areas that have the sufficient infraestructure
and constitute quality attractions for the discerning independent
traveller.

We will NOT take you to overcrowded
areas, and if the destination is overcrowded we will find
our way around the crowds. We WILL TRY TO AVOID large soulless
accommodation and focus on small properties, whenever possible
owner managed that reflect the local culture. We prefer lodges,
haciendas restored hotels with a local inspiration and traditional
cuisine.

Another aspect
of BOLIVIA is that it can be tied into a multi country itinerary,
as it borders with PERU and CHILE in areas of great visitor interest.
