Lampa is a tiny village located 15 km/10 miles from Juliaca. Lampa is unique in that it is one of the few Andean villages that has been preserved and maintains its traditional style.
Lampa is fortunate to have had a major endowment by one of its notable citizens in the 1960's to preserve its 15th century Cathedral. Apart from visiting this wonderful beautifully preserved church, there is precious little to do in Lampa, but an overnight stay at its charming and (so far only) lodging, La Casona de Lampa, and a walk around its lovely streets is definitely worthwhile. Lampa's claim to fame is to have, in its Cathedral, a marble replica of Michelangelo's Pieta.
