Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel ***

Technically the only five star hotel in town, this property is amongst the best available for those staying in Aguas Calientes before travelling to Machu Picchu, just a 20 minute bus ride away. The name Sumaq literally translates as “a great stay”, not least because the hotel's décor and ambience have been styled to represent the finest of Inca grandeur (though this is not often done with the best of tastes …). The rooms offer a comfortable and spacious private retreat to guests, while the innovative cuisine, influenced by top Peruvian chef Rafael Piqueras, is also given particular attention. Sumaq aims to protect the natural environment with the support of the Rainforest Alliance organization.
