What makes a holiday resonate long after the baggage carousel has stopped turning? Perhaps it's a combination of unique people and places that create those everlasting memories. Seizing the unique opportunity to have a private tour of the finest private ‘lived in' art collection in Lima with owner Jim Ciurlizza was one priceless experience for a number of our clients. A popular author, excellent cook and wonderful host, Jim opens his doors exclusively for Aracari clients to give them a personal tour of the Collection before sitting down for a sumptuous lunch or dinner of Peruvian cuisine.

The Collection, acquired over a period of 60 years largely by Jim's father, renowned Peruvian designer Alex Ciurlizza, is an eclectic combination of works and objects d'art that play and integral part in the décor of this sophisticated Limenian home. It includes some of the most famous pre-Columbian paintings, fine Colonial and Republican ceramics and a unique 18 th Century ‘La Granja' crystal glassware collection from San Ildefonso. There are also works by European and American artists, such as Picasso, Calder, Miró, Henry Moore, Marino Marini, Maillol, Chatwick and Pontremoli. It is Jim's fascinating presentation skills that capture the imagination, they were “… thorough, fascinating and light-hearted,” says Andy Rayburn. Capped by an extraordinary meal, which Andy proclaims to be, “the best wine and culinary experience we encountered in Peru!”

For many, a visit to Casa Ciurlizza gives you a true glimpse of the life of a true Lima insider and aesthete. In the words of his friend, artist and designer John Alfredo Davis this “highly cultivated experience will help people to understand Peru, its people and why Peru is called the land of contrast.”
