Manu
and Tambopata, the two rainforest
areas in the Southeast of Peru are superb. They also allow
for sensible logistics during your trip, as access is
from Lima and Cuzco (into Puerto
Maldonado for Tambopata) on a scheduled flight, or from
Cuzco on propeller planes (into Boca Manu).
Both have fantastic primary
forest and good wildlife viewing possibilities. However,
the main differences are:
1. Accessibility and
2. Price
Manu
is less accessible hence it is more expensive. If you
have little time, it is the appropriate choice, as you
will get into the forest more quickly. 10 times less people
visit Manu than Tambopata.
Here we recommend Manu
Wildlife Center.
If budget is an issue and you want to visit fantastic
rainforest we recommend you take 5 days from your Peru
trip, and go to Tambopata
Research Center, the only lodge within the boundaries
of the Reserved Area. If you have limited time, our number
one choice is Sandoval
Lake Lodge, Refugio
Amazonas and also Posada
Amazonas Lodge. You can stay here 2 nights and still
get a feel for the forest. For a full list of accommodation
in the Rainforest please click here.
Sample itinerary
3 includes a visit to the Rainforest.
