On September 23rd 1996 Marisol Mosquera started Aracari Travel with the vision of designing hand-crafted itineraries for those discerning travellers who wanted to explore Peru in comfort and style.

Precisely 15 years later and the company is recognised as one of Peru’s finest tour operators, with awards from Conde Nast Traveler magazine and Travel + Leisure just a few of the plaudits that have been received over the years.

If you’re in London next week, well then Aracari will be too: Marisol Mosquera is assisting with Tasneem Gallery’s exposition at PINTA LONDON 2011, The Modern & Contemporary Latin American Art Show.

With an exciting array of art from across the continent, PINTA demonstrates just how boisterous the Latin American Art scene is at the moment. And Tasneem Gallery’s exposition will contemplate the diversity of Latin American art, a reflection of the region’s long and vibrant history incorporated with current social and economic dynamics.

Visit Lima’s secret garden: Another close friend will soon be delighted to receive Aracari guests during a luxury Lima tour

Following a recent visit to the house of Naguib Ciurlizza, the Aracari team was delighted to learn that the distinguished host will soon receive our guests for lunch in his private home.

Located close to Lima, his property contains perhaps the most remarkable garden in Peru, which has been designed with immaculate attention to detail and that makes for a peaceful afternoon relaxing and dining in the company of a captivating conversationalist and story-teller.

Peruvian Author Alfredo Bryce Releases New Book of Short Stories

The acclaimed Peruvian author Alfredo Bryce Echenique has released a new collection of short stories to add to his eclectic repertoire.

Entitled La esposa del Rey de las Curvas, the new book recounts phases of hardship during the writer’s life and is wrought with “little revenges” against various people whom he has encountered. In exploration of the human condition, the twelve stand-alone stories all have a strong autobiographical component, as well as searing nostalgia towards the writer’s homeland. Notwithstanding, they include a generous smattering of the writer’s typically ironic, humorous and digressive style.

Pre-Columbian Peruvian Textiles – New Exhibition in Lima

A marvellous exhibition of Peruvian textiles opened yesterday at the Centro Cultural Inca Garcilaso in Central Lima, Peru. Organised by the Fundación Museo Amano and Iniciativas Culturales del Peru, it brings together 22 works of the Amano Museum’s collection, which have been selected by the archaeologist Walter Alva and artist Carlos Runcie Tanaka. The museum foundation was established in 1964 by the famous collector Yoshitaro Amano, who promoted the preservation and scientific study of pre-Columbian textile art.

We are thrilled that the British Museum has included 2 Peruvian Objects in BBC Radio 4 series “History of the World in 100 objects”. This series is in our view, one of the best radio series and a ground breaking initiative by a Museum, to educate and enlighten the public.

Peruvian Art Talk in London was a Big Hit!

We are absoutely thrilled to have had a very successful turnout at the Instituto Cervantes in London, where Marisol Mosquera gave a talk on Peruvian Contemporary Art.
Peruvian contemporary art is very exciting at the moment, with a number of young artists hitting the international scene. Two of our favourites are Sandra Gamarra and Fernando Bryce, both who live in Europe and have their work both at the MOMA and Tate Britain. The most exciting trend however, in our view, as promoters of all that is authentic and Peruvian are the artists whose subject matter and narrative is deeply connected to its  Peruvian roots. To name just the few whose work was reviewed during the talk, there is Christiam Vendayan from Iquitos, and Fernando Gutierrez “Huanchaco”  and Pablo Patrucco both from Lima.

One taste and you’re hooked

Meet a chef with a passion for Peruvian cooking

Our friend, chef Penelope Alzamora

‘Fusion’ is an over-used word in today’s culinary world, but there is no national cuisine that can quite live up to this label as confidently as Peruvian. Take a tradition of experimentation with flavours in the villages centuries ago, add some Spanish flavours courtesy of the Conquistadors and a hint of African and Arabian influences – together with the latter day popularity of Italian, Chinese and Japanese immigrant cooking and you have a highly ‘fused’ recipe for exciting and unique dishes.
