An archaeologist, researcher, and scholar of Andean civilizations, Dr. Carlos Rengifo brings over two decades of expertise to the study of Peru’s ancient cultures. With a PhD from the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom and a degree in Archaeology from the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo, he is one of the country’s leading voices on the cultural and artistic legacy of the pre-Columbian world.

As Director of the Huacas de Moche Archaeological Project, Dr. Rengifo leads ongoing excavations at one of Peru’s most significant ceremonial and urban complexes. His deep knowledge of the site—its architecture, iconography, and ritual context—offers travelers privileged insight into the rise and fall of the great civilizations that once flourished along Peru’s northern coast.

Dr. Rengifo academic journey has taken him across continents, with teaching and research roles at renowned institutions including the University of East Anglia, Université de Rennes 1, Lund University, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo.
