Travel to South America in June

June ushers in some of the most spectacular conditions across the Andes, with crisp blue skies, dry weather, and cool nights perfect for trekking and cultural exploration.

In Peru, this is prime season in Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu, where clear mountain views and vibrant festivals — including the legendary Inti Raymi Sun Festival in Cusco — fill the month with color and tradition. Bolivia’s highlands shine under deep blue skies, from the islands of Lake Titicaca to the colonial streets of Sucre and Potosí. In Chile’s Atacama Desert, crystal-clear air delivers unrivalled stargazing, while in Patagonia, winter settles in and the season becomes one for hardy explorers or those drawn to snow-covered landscapes.

In the Galápagos, cooler waters begin to arrive with the Humboldt Current, bringing a bounty of marine life — penguins become more active, sea lions are abundant, and seabird courtship continues with blue-footed boobies, frigatebirds, and waved albatross on Española.

The Amazon enters its low-water transition, still navigable but with more exposed riverbanks for spotting wildlife such as capybaras and caimans. Brazil’s Pantanal is deep into its dry season, offering exceptional wildlife viewing, including jaguars along the riverbanks. Colombia’s Caribbean coast remains sunny and warm, ideal for combining Cartagena’s historic streets with the beaches of the Rosario Islands. In Ecuador’s highlands, June marks the start of the Inti Raymi and Corpus Christi celebrations, adding music, dance, and vivid costumes to the crisp mountain air.
