The Salt of the Earth is an expedition into one of South America’s least-visited and most breathtaking regions, a journey defined by vast horizons, deep silence, ancient cultures, and extraordinary natural wonders. Designed for travelers seeking true remoteness without sacrificing comfort, this route blends high-altitude deserts, immense salt flats, wildlife-rich reserves, and surreal geological landscapes.

Your adventure begins on Chile’s northern coast before crossing the Atacama Desert, the driest desert on Earth. Along the way, explore abandoned nitrate towns, ancient geoglyphs, and dramatic canyons shaped by centuries of wind and sun. With expert guides and a fully equipped 4×4, you’ll travel safely and seamlessly through these remote territories.

From Lauca and Las Vicuñas National Reserves, where vicuñas, guanacos, and flamingos roam against a backdrop of perfect volcanic cones, you’ll continue across the border into Bolivia. Here await the dreamlike expanses of the Salar de Uyuni and the chromatic lagoons, geysers, and mineral-rich landscapes of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve.

The journey concludes in San Pedro de Atacama, where luxury desert lodges, world-class stargazing, and iconic sites like the Moon Valley offer a soft landing after days of adventure.

This is a road trip like no other, wild, cinematic, intimate, and often without another soul in sight.
