Villa Barranco

Stylish Boutique

Lima

Housed within two stately seaside mansions dating to the early 1920s, Villa Barranco is a beautifully restored boutique hotel in the heart of Lima’s most bohemian district. Once part of the former El Pacayar estate, the property was designed by Polish architect Ricardo de Jaxa Malachowski and originally conceived as a single-family residence before being divided mid-century. Today, united once more, it offers calm, character, and a strong sense of place just steps from the Pacific.

Meticulously restored by local designers and artisans, many of the home’s original architectural features have been carefully revived. Sculpted façades, mosaic floors, tiled roofs, and intricate ornamentation speak to the grace of early 20th-century Lima, while contemporary comforts bring the property gently into the present. With only twenty rooms, Villa Barranco feels intimate and quietly refined, a four-star retreat by the small Peruvian chain Ananay.

Boutique with character

As a former private residence, it is fitting that Villa Barranco sits on a quiet residential corner of Barranco, tucked between the coastal boardwalk and the district’s galleries and cafés. Award-winning restaurants, contemporary art spaces, and the clifftop promenade are all within easy walking distance.

Converted with sensitivity, the hotel retains a strong sense of warmth and homeliness. Interiors feel lived-in rather than staged, with parquet floors, book-lined shelves, and inviting communal spaces that echo the rhythm of a grand seaside home. Gardens and terraces provide pockets of calm, while the rooftop and upper floors offer privileged views toward the Green Coast and the Pacific beyond.

The Rooms

With just twenty thoughtfully designed rooms, each space feels individual and characterful. All rooms are generously proportioned en-suites, many opening onto private garden terraces, balconies, or rooftop patios. Upper-floor rooms enjoy particularly open outlooks, with balconies overlooking the coastline.

Accommodation categories include Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites, and a distinctive split-level Master Suite. The Master Suite features a loft accessed by a spiral staircase, leading to a quiet nook with a single bed and doors opening onto a private ocean-view roof terrace.

Decoration throughout is eclectic and personal. One of the owners is an avid collector, and vintage furniture, art pieces, and carefully chosen objects lend depth and personality to each room. These are complemented by cozy furnishings, flashes of contemporary art, and bold geometric tiles that add color and contrast. The overall style is confident and current without feeling contrived, with high ceilings ensuring spaces remain light and airy. All rooms offer air-conditioning, flat-screen televisions, and Wi-Fi.

Dining

Breakfast is a highlight at Villa Barranco and unfolds on the rooftop terrace. The offering focuses on local ingredients, blending Peruvian flavors with international classics in a relaxed, elegant setting. There is no full restaurant on site, though this is hardly a limitation given Barranco’s exceptional dining scene and the proximity of Miraflores.

For quieter evenings, a light room service menu is available, featuring simple and comforting dishes such as pastas and hamburgers, ideal after a day exploring the city.

Villa Barranco remains a place of quiet elegance and character, a restored 1920s mansion where Lima’s bohemian energy meets a sense of calm, privacy, and understated refinement.
