A Paddington-Inspired Family Adventure Through Peru

Spend twelve magical days tracing the pawprints of Paddington Bear across Peru on a journey woven with wildlife encounters, ancient history, immersive culture, and pure family fun. Inspired by Paddington in Peru, this bespoke adventure brings the story to life in the landscapes that shaped the world’s most beloved bear.

Your voyage begins in Lima before flying north to Chaparrí and the dry forests of Lambayeque, one of Peru’s most important community-led conservation areas. Here, you’ll meet the real-life Paddington: the endangered spectacled bear, the only bear species native to South America. Witness the extraordinary work being done to protect and rehabilitate these gentle creatures while soaking up the serenity of the region’s wild forests and bird-rich canyons.

Continue to the archaeological treasures of Chiclayo and El Brujo, where ancient Moche and pre-Columbian civilizations left behind monumental adobe pyramids, monumental friezes, and the famed Lady of Cao. From here, you’ll fly south into the Sacred Valley and board the Vistadome train toward Machu Picchu. Exploring the lost citadel with your private guide, you’ll learn the stories etched into its terraces — and keep an eye out for Paddington’s cousins, who sometimes wander the quieter edges of the ruins.

Your journey then leads to Cusco, a city of cobbled streets, creative energy, and vivid history, before venturing deep into the Amazon for a three-night stay at the world-renowned Tambopata Research Center. Days unfold with forest hikes led by expert naturalists and Indigenous guides, thrilling wildlife sightings, and a sunset river cruise through the Amazon as the sky is painted in hues of pink and orange. Adventures here are designed specifically with families in mind, and in fact – Tambopata was one of the favourite experiences enjoyed by Mirjam and her family during their 7-month-long sabbatical.

Highlights

  • Spot the real-life Paddington — the Andean spectacled bear — during your visit to Chaparrí and the renowned spectacled bear recovery center.
  • Explore the majestic ruins of Machu Picchu with your private guide, keeping an eye out for the native bears that roam the mountains.
  • Spend a day adventuring through the Sacred Valley, beginning with a scenic horseback ride amid soaring Andean peaks.
